As a proud Latina, I know all too well that traditional weight loss narratives typically prioritize certain body types, beauty standards, and ways of eating that often don’t allow (much less celebrate) the diverse cultural backgrounds of SO many women around the world.

There’s SO many beliefs, habits, and teachings that have been handed down to us as women about our bodies that bread sabotage and emotional eating. 

In order to break the patterns that no longer serve us (because they don’t feel loving — and just plain aren’t working) we have to understand what’s been keeping us stuck. 

Once you understand it. 

It’s how you can finally create lasting, LOVING, sustainable change. 

I felt frustrated, flawed, and deeply inadequate. 

For two decades I battled with my weight. 
I would lose weight and then regain it, like it was my job! 

I felt powerless over my nightly emotional eating habits. 
I felt baffled and out of control and WEEKLY (sometimes daily) sabotaged my weight loss goals. 

I didn’t understand why. 
I was smart (in fact I was the first person in my family to go to college) 
I worked hard (my work ethic is unmatched) 
I KNEW what to eat/how to eat (I was formally trained in nutrition!)

And yet, every night and every weekend I would overeat.

I  am a first-generation Mexican-American. 

I am the daughter of immigrants who instilled resilience and strength in me. Whether your ‘culture’ is the same or different than mine — whatever your heritage might be – this is an invitation for you to reclaim YOUR AGENCY without sacrificing your desired weight loss. 

For almost two decades, I battled with weight and food. At one point, my weight gain was so significant that I struggled to even tie my shoes and weighed almost 200 pounds. At other points, I lost weight but had a tumultuous relationship with food.

(*I promise you, you’re allowed to have goals. You’re allowed to lose weight. But let’s upgrade the approach, for YOU and generations to come). 

I would eat ‘in secret’, and I felt shame for both gaining weight and losing weight. It was an impossible painful place. Because weight loss can feel like a ‘taboo’ topic, and just like so many women of color, I faced the silent struggle ALONE.

 I longed to LOVE myself and my body. But I ALSO wanted to lose weight — I never ‘found’ a solution — so I created one. 

I AM EMPOWERED in all food and body-related decisions = FREEDOM. 

I RECLAIMED MY BODY AND DECOLONIZED MY WEIGHT LOSS. 

I LOVE this area of my life now. 

I LOVE my relationship with food. 

I STOPPED sabotaging and emotionally eating. 

I lost 80 pounds and have kept the weight OFF with ease. 

I wanted to lose weight, but not in the same self-deprecating, culturally insensitive, and damaging way that had been handed down to me. 

LETS LEAVE THIS GENERATION BETTER THAN WE FOUND IT. 

– YOU GET TO DO THAT. 

As the proud mom of a beautiful 4-year-old girl, my mission extends beyond personal transformation. I want my daughter and every woman to know that when colonizers looked at our ancestors’ bodies and deemed them ‘less than’. THEY WERE WRONG.

(Note: you might not resonate specifically with the history of colonization, but perhaps for YOU it's: diet culture, white supremacy, patriarchy, or some a**hole that at some point made a derogatory comment about your body).
